Hardware-based optical sensors have been an indispensable part of every smartphone to turn off the screen and to disable touch functionality when a user holds a device to their ear. By replacing these hardware components with Elliptic Labs’ INNER BEAUTY—the first software-based solution to replace the optical proximity sensor—the unsightly black holes on the front of the smartphone will be removed. The result is a more aesthetically pleasing design.
INNER MAGIC is a patented touch-free ultrasound gesture product line. It’s comprised of gesture engines and virtual gesture sensors that enable the simple, intuitive interactions that users want. All of our sensors have a 180-degree field of view, allowing users to perform natural hand movements in the air above, below, in front of, or to the side of their device.
MagicSNAP is one of the virtual gesture sensors available from INNER MAGIC. As shown in the video, it allows users to take photos using a gesture from up to 6 feet away. In recent consumer research, over 90% of users were positive about the possibility of having MagicSNAP on their own device.

INNER REFLECTION is an ultrasound-based presence sensing platform. This platform lets manufacturers embed presence sensing capabilities in any product that has a speaker, a microphone, and an audio processor. Presence sensing allows users to interact with smart devices in the most natural way possible. With presence sensing, devices can do things like: respond to users entering the room, adjust the volume based on the distance to the user, wake up when the user approaches, and turn off appliances and light to save power when the user leaves.
